Mera Peak Climbing - 15 Days
Overview of Mera Peak
Mera Peak rises to 6,476 meters inside Makalu Barun National Park and is widely regarded as the highest trekking peak in Nepal. The climb is non-technical compared to many Himalayan summits, yet it still offers a true high-altitude mountaineering experience.
From the summit, climbers enjoy a remarkable panorama of five of the world’s tallest mountains: Mount Everest, Lhotse, Makalu, Cho Oyu, and Kanchenjunga.
Because of its gradual snow slopes and altitude, Mera Peak is often considered an ideal preparation climb for mountaineers aiming for 7,000m and 8,000m expeditions.
Trekking Route to Mera Peak
The journey begins with a scenic flight from Kathmandu to Lukla, followed by a trek to Chuthanga.
The trail then crosses the high alpine Zatrwa La Pass, an important acclimatization section, before descending to Chetrabu and continuing through Kothe and Thagnak toward Khare — the base settlement for the climb.
Unlike the busy Everest Base Camp route, this trail passes through remote forests, rivers, and wide valleys, offering a quieter wilderness experience and encounters with both Sherpa and Rai communities.
Acclimatization at Khare
Khare (5,045 m) serves as the main preparation point before the summit push. A rest day here helps the body adjust to altitude and reduces the risk of altitude sickness.
A recommended acclimatization hike leads toward Mera La (about 5,400 m), providing views of glaciers and surrounding peaks while improving adaptation.
Climbing Training
Before the ascent, your professional climbing guide conducts practical training covering:
Use of crampons and ice axe
Rope techniques and safety procedures
Glacier walking methods
Proper movement on snow slopes
This preparation ensures climbers gain confidence before summit day.
High Camp Experience
After acclimatization, trekkers climb to High Camp at approximately 5,800 meters. The camp is set on a snowy ridge with spectacular views.
You will stay in tented accommodation, enjoy warm meals prepared by the support crew, and rest early in preparation for the summit attempt.
Summit Day – Reaching 6,476m
The summit push begins around 1–2 AM to avoid strong winds later in the day. The climb follows gradual snow slopes, with the final section being steeper and supported by fixed ropes.
Standing on the summit is a breathtaking moment — a 360° Himalayan panorama surrounded by the world’s highest mountains.
After photos and celebration, the team descends to High Camp and then back to Khare.
Return Journey
Following the summit, the route retraces through Thagnak, Kothe, and Zatrwa La Pass back to Lukla before flying to Kathmandu.

The climb requires several permits:
Mera Peak climbing permit (seasonal rate)
Makalu Barun National Park entry permit

All arrangements are handled by the expedition organizer.
